Jagoba Arrasate: "We had to fight hard"
Defender Alejandro Catena scored the equalizer in the 90th minute after forward Nico Williams Jr. put Athletic Club ahead
Club Atlético Osasuna (3-3-6, 12 points) earned a point against Athletic Club (4-4-3, 16 points) in stoppage time thanks to a goal by defender Alejandro Catena on Saturday afternoon at El Sadar. The defender leveled the match just minutes after forward Nico Williams Jr. had put the visitors ahead on a counterattack. It was the conclusion to an exciting and intense contest in which Osasuna showed a determined work ethic.
Before the match, El Sadar paid tribute and held a minute of silence in memory of Jesús de Miguel. The first half was evenly matched, with Athletic Club trying to control possession but Osasuna keeping them out of the box. As time went on, the home side pushed forward and created chances against goalkeeper Unai Simón. Midfielder Lucas Torró had a shot blocked by the defense, while defender Abel Bretones and forward Raúl Moro both tried their luck from outside the area. Athletic Club’s best chance came from forward Álex Berenguer, who hit the post.
In the second half, Osasuna continued to play well, preventing clear chances from the visitors and creating good transitions. In the 57th minute, defender Valentin Rosier appeared to put Osasuna ahead 1-0, but the goal was disallowed for offside on Catena. The match remained even until the final minutes, when Athletic Club took the lead through a quick counterattack finished by Williams Jr. Goalkeeper Aitor Fernández made a great save in the first attempt, but the rebound hit the Athletic Club player and resulted in a goal for 0-1. Osasuna pressed for an equalizer, sending in crosses from the flanks, and Catena finally leveled the score in the 90th minute.
After the international break, Osasuna will host Málaga at El Sadar on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Minutes: 96min.
